Summer Art Camps

GSOA Visual Art Camps

“Death Star” by Corey M.

GSOA’s Visual Arts Camps will allow your child to explore a variety of media!  We’ll teach them the techniques then let them follow their intuition as they try it for themselves in the Studio! Your kids are sure to LOVE it!

Space is limited, so register early! Camp Fee is NON-REFUNDABLE as we are holding a spot for you. However, it is transferable if you would like to find someone to take the spot.  Art camp is limited to third graders and up.

Classes Offered:

Clay/Pottery

Clay is a wonderful, tactile media and in this camp, we will reflect on the theme of summer as inspiration. During this camp, the campers will experiment with a variety of building techniques including pinch pots, slabs, coils, and the wheel. Once the campers learn to express and execute their personal visions in clay, they can become empowered in ways that go far beyond the walls of the studio! All levels are welcome.  Clay pieces generally take one to two weeks to be fired. The school office will notify parents when pieces are ready to be picked up. The school provides all materials.

Junior Sculptors (Sculpture)

Campers will be taught different techniques and terms to give them the tools to create in the 3-D world.  Some of the materials they will explore will be paper, clay, cardboard, and wire.  Handouts and historical information will be given for personal reference.  At the end of each day, there will be a discussion on the overall assignment.  The school provides all materials.

Creative Comics

If you have an interest in comic books, creating character-driven stories, and like to draw, this camp is for you! Whether you love super heroes, scifi, manga, fantasy, or comedy, the structure within is all the same. We will touch on all the essential tools you will need to understand the comic book medium. Campers will learn all the fundamentals of the storytelling art. Campers will also learn techniques for developing a story outline, page layout, character design, drawing with perspective, inking, and tips on lettering their comics.  The school provides all materials.

Painting, Drawing, and More

Get ready to roll up your sleeves, paint, and create some masterpieces! Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, you will be exploring the world of aesthetics and what goes into art making. Through observation and special attention to detail, campers will learn about shapes, space, drawing techniques, color mixing, paint handling, and more. The subject matter can be self-portraits, pet portraits, landscapes and still life, or anything that strikes the camper’s interest! Campers will learn about makes them a unique and emerging young artist and create a one-of-a-kind 16×20” canvas painting.  The school provides all materials.
